Wednesday, February 2nd is National Girls and Women in Sport Day (NGWSD). NGWSD day recognizes and honors the importance of equal opportunities in sport, celebrates the achievements of girls and women, and advocates for equal access and opportunity to participate. This year also marks the 50th anniversary of Title IX, pivotal legislation that helped pave the way for women and girls in sport. Looking for ways to celebrate?
- The Women’s Sport Foundation (WSF) is launching its first-ever NGWSD Virtual 5K & 50 Mile Challenge, is running local events and holding a virtual celebration. Follow WSF on social media more information.
- Volunteer your time or donate to organizations serving and supporting female athletes e.g. WSF, Women in Sport, Voice in Sport, Black Girls Run, Girls on the Run, Play Like a Girl, Little Bellas, a few of many, well deserving organizations.
- Engage in discussions about girls and women in sport. Be an advocate and provide opportunities for more women and girls to participate in sport and for representation in sports & exercise science research.
- Go for a celebratory run, ride, walk or another activity that moves your body. Be sure to post your celebration on social media using the hashtag #NGWSD and tag us on Instagram @nutrifyperformance.
