Earlier this week, we looked at why fueling is often the first place to start when training begins to feel off.
But knowing that and knowing whether your fueling is actually keeping up aren’t always the same thing.
When things feel off, it’s easy to guess. Maybe you just need to eat more. Maybe you need more carbs. Maybe you need better timing. But without stepping back to look at what’s actually happening across your day, it’s hard to know where to focus.
Where to Start First
If your training has increased recently, start by taking a closer look at your fueling:
- Are you eating enough earlier in the day to support your training?
- Are you fueling during longer or more demanding sessions?
- Are you following up with something after training, or moving on without much thought to it?
- Are there long gaps between meals that might be adding up?
These gaps aren’t always obvious in the moment. But they’re often where things start to drift.
A Simple Way to Check
Instead of trying to piece this together in your head, it can help to step back and look at it more objectively.
This is exactly why we created the Smart Fueling Assessment.
It’s designed to help you look at how your fueling is aligning with your training and where things might be falling short.
Not to give you a perfect answer. But to help you identify what stands out and where to start.
