Today is National Girls & Women in Sports Day and a moment to acknowledge progress in women’s sports and to recognize the work that remains.
Since the passage of Title IX, participation opportunities for girls and women have expanded significantly. More girls are playing sports. More women are competing at higher levels. Visibility has increased. And yet, access, equity, and long-term support are still uneven.
We work with active women across a wide range of sports and life stages. Some have competed for decades. Others are returning to sport later in life. Many are navigating training, fueling, and recovery within systems that were not originally designed with them in mind. That context matters.
Participation is about more than performance
Sport participation supports physical health, confidence, leadership, and connection. It creates space for challenge, growth, and resilience that extends well beyond competition.
But participation is shaped by more than motivation alone. It depends on access to safe and inclusive environments, coaching and support that adapt as needs change, and resources that make participation sustainable over time. When those supports are present, participation is more likely to continue. When they are missing, continued engagement becomes harder, regardless of interest or commitment.
Organizations like the Women’s Sports Foundation play an important role in strengthening these systems by expanding access and advocating for equity in sport. Their work helps ensure that girls and women not only have opportunities to participate, but also the support needed to remain engaged over time.
Why National Girls & Women in Sports Day Matters
National Girls & Women in Sports Day is not just a celebration, it’s a reminder that participation should be accessible, support should evolve, and long-term engagement in sport depends on more than motivation alone.
At Nutrify, we’re proud to support organizations that strengthen these foundations and to work alongside women who continue to show up for their sport in all its forms. Because participation matters, and the systems that support it matter just as much.
