Fuel Forward Ride Series Week 2 Recap – Reigniting Your Momentum: What To Do When Your Motivation Fizzles

🚴🏻‍♀️Ended up on a solo ride today, but it turned out to be a helpful reminder of today’s topic: keeping momentum alive when motivation takes a dip.

✨By intentionally focusing on the bright spots, I found a silver lining: I was able to keep my heart rate low at a faster pace which meant I could roll out a few extra miles in the same amount of time. Sometimes just showing up for yourself & your goals is a win!

👉🏻 So how do you navigate those “meh” moments when motivation fades? Check out the post below for some ideas & give it a go!

🚴🏻‍♀️Next week, we’ll kick off the ride with a quick recap and dive into key aspects of health and performance: nutrition (both general and sports-specific), stress management, and sleep strategies. Interested in joining us next week? Learn more & register here.

Reigniting Your Momentum: What To Do When Your Motivation Fizzles

Last week, we talked about defining goals, creating an action plan, and leveraging support systems to help keep you on track. Did you try any of the resources? What did you think? If you missed the ride recap, you can catch up here.

Now that you’ve got a goal, an action plan, and some early wins, it feels pretty good, right? And guess what? Quitters’ Day happened last week—and you didn’t quit! Take a moment to give yourself a big high-five and a round of applause. Seriously, celebrate that win.

But let’s get real. What happens when the initial oomph, excitement, and momentum start to fizzle out? Maybe you’re even flirting with the idea of throwing in the towel (wait, am I describing you?). Don’t worry—this is normal. The key is figuring out what to do next.

Flip the Script: Ask Better Questions

Most of us are pros at giving ourselves the “should” talk: “I should ride my bike.” “I should plan my meals.” “I should get to bed earlier.”

Sound familiar? Here’s a little twist: instead of focusing on what you should do, take a moment to explore why you might not want to do it. It’s counterintuitive, but it’s powerful. Ask yourself:

  1. What is GOOD about not (riding your bike, meal planning, going to bed earlier, etc.)?
  2. Why might you prefer things to stay the same?
  3. What could be BAD about (riding your bike, meal planning, or making other changes)?
  4. What might you have to give up or lose if you keep moving forward?
  5. What might suck if you keep moving forward?

Acknowledging the resistance and understanding the reasons behind it can give you clarity and even help reignite your motivation.

Check Your Mindset

Take a moment to reflect: Are you stuck in an all-or-nothing mindset? It’s easy to think, “If I can’t do this perfectly, I might as well not do it at all.” But progress isn’t about perfection—it’s about persistence.

What small tweaks can you make to your action plan to restore excitement and keep moving forward? Here are a few ideas:

  • Ride with friends once a week instead of always going solo.
  • Get your family involved in meal planning or prep to make it more fun.
  • Swap one late-night Netflix binge for 10 extra minutes of sleep.

Small shifts can have a big impact—and they’re often easier to stick with. And remember to #keepshowingup for yourself and your goals. What’s the worst that could happen?

What’s Next
